Known as Panax Notoginseng, this flower tea is selected from 3-year flower buds that have not opened and are still green. Its taste is refreshingly sweet and slightly bitter with strong aroma. Its herbal benefits include: cooling down body heat, relieving headaches and anxiety, calming liver, insomnia, and lowering blood pressure and cholesterol. Long-term consumption will also helps improved immunity system. It is suitable for teenagers as well.
Keep the tea in a cool and dry place, avoiding direct sunlight. Rinse 3-4 buds with boiling water before brewing a cup of healthy drink. Let it steep for at least 3 minutes. You may use hot water for subsequent brews. The brew gets most concentrated on the 3rd brew, and it is good even up to the 7th brew. Some locals will then used the buds for cooking to ‘squeeze’ out all its health essence. If you do not mind its bitterness, you can even eat this ‘broccoli-look-alike”. Or you may try drinking it with green tea, honey or rock sugar for a different experience.
